Link lists made easy with the Week In Links plugin for WordPress
This is a guest post by my husband Marco
Last week we started with a new weekly series of posts named Around the Web in 7 Days. Posts in this series are basically a list of all interesting book links encountered during the past week. As some of you who also write posts like this will know, it takes quite a lot of time to compile these lists. That’s where this new plugin comes in!
Week In Links is a plugin originally created especially for bookalicio.us to make link digest posts as painless as possible. The plugin makes use of social bookmarking service Delicious. Your links are cleverly pulled from your account there. Since it’s proven to be very useful for this site we figured it may very well also be for yours. Therefore we’re now releasing the plugin to the public.
All you have to do is use Delicious to collect links you want to use in your post. If you’re doing a post a week you can use the whole week to collect them. Find something interesting for later use in a link digest? Simply bookmark it on Delicious and use one or two specific tags and your work is done. Use one (unique) tag to identify each collection to post and another one to specify under which category the link will appear. In our case we use week1, week2 and so on as identifiers for each collection. Additionally we use wil_contests for ‘Contests’, wil_great_posts for ‘Great Posts’, wil_important_bookish_links for ‘Important Bookish Links’. I’m sure you’ll get the picture.
More information on how to use the plugin can be found on it’s configuration page which you’ll find under ‘Settings’ on your WordPress dashboard after activating the plugin.
I have requested for this plugin to be included in the WordPress Plugin Directory. While this request is pending I’m providing a download link below. This post will be updated as soon as the plugin is available from the directory.
