Stephanie Meyer to release new Twilight Book

Well before “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” hits theaters on June 30, “Twilight” fans will be treated to a new glimpse into author Stephenie Meyer’s vampire universe.
On June 5, the 36-year-old multimillionaire author will release “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner,” a novella that takes place concurrently with the events in the third “Twilight” book, “Eclipse.” Only this time, the bloody tale of revenge and romance will be told from the perspective of Bree, a “newborn” vampire recruited by antagonist Victoria (to be played by Bryce Dallas Howard in the upcoming film) to kill human heroine Bella Swan (played, of course, by Kristen Stewart).
If fans are confounded by the news that a minor character from the series is the star of the first “Twilight” book in two years, they’re not the only ones. “It’s a surprise…I never intended to publish this story as a stand-alone book,” Meyer says on her website. “I began this story a long time ago-before Twilight was even released. Back then I was just editing Eclipse, and in the thick of my vampire world…. I started writing from Bree’s perspective about those final days, and what it was like to be a newborn.”
The short story was originally slated for the upcoming tome The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, but when Meyer’s publisher informed her it was far too lengthy for inclusion, they decided to release it as a separate book instead.
Anyone skeptical that the wildly successful vampire-genre author is just trying to bleed her fans for more money can rest easy-starting June 7 at noon and until July 5, the entire story will be available at www.breetanner.com for free. “You all have bought a ton of my books,” Meyer noted on her site. “I wanted to give you this story as a gift.”
The book will also be released in hardcover by Little, Brown on June 5. One dollar from the first 1.5 million copies sold in the U.S. will go to will go to the American Red Cross International Response Fund to help ease crises like those in Chile and Haiti.

Before Meyer decided to release “Bree Tanner” to the public, however, this short story was lent to “Eclipse” screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to help her understand how Victoria-the vampire set on making Bella and Edward pay for her lover’s death-created her army of newborn vampires, and to provide details of the vampires’ feeding frenzy in Seattle.
Readers of the novel may recall Bree’s unique role in Eclipse-she was the only newborn vampire left alive after the Cullens (the good bloodsuckers) triumphed. But as the title indicates, Bree’s second life didn’t last very long. After being tortured by a member of the Volturi, Jane (played by Dakota Fanning in the film), Bree was destroyed for breaking the cardinal vampire rule: Don’t reveal yourself recklessly to humans.
Why must we compare books?
I was reading some tweets this morning from Vampire-diaries.net this morning and they posted a link to yet another article from main stream media comparing The Vampires Diaries books and show to the Twilight books and movie. This made my wonder why we have the need to compare things to one another just because they have one small thing in common. To the “Twilighters” who are assuming the show and the books are “ripping off” Stephanie Meyer and Twilight, I would just like to mention The Vampire Diaries original trilogy was published in 1991. Meyer was born in 1973, a teen when Smith’s book were published. Perhaps she read them way back when?
It usually is entertainment writers fueling a level of idiocy when it comes to literature. If I Stay by Gayle Foreman also had the problem of being compared by the media to Twilight, and compared to Twilight the reviewers believed the book was lacking. If you try not comparing it to Twilight this is a book that well stands on its own two legs very well, when I was reading this novel I had not one thought of the Twilight Series. There is no Vampire, no real supernatural plot, and the main character was way better fleshed out and adjusted compared to Bella Swan.
So this brings me to my question for all of you, why must we compare things and make decisions based on unfair comparisons? The Vampire Diaries came first, has a completely different plot and should be able to survive on its own merit without unfair comparisons.
Review: Twilight (Twilight Series) by Stephanie Meyer
I picked up Twilight at a book store display about a year and a half ago. I had no idea how popular Stephanie Meyer’s book was at the time, just that I wanted something to read and the book was thick and big with an engaging cover image. I started reading it immediately and by chapter three I was hooked. This book is an amazing start for a first time author.
The plot lines in the book are very simple and there is a bit of a mystery but mostly everything is spelled out in a pretty good detail making for an easy and fun read. If you are looking for depth, or want the usual sexy , trashy supernatural novel you are not going to find either in this book. The plot focuses on Bella Swan a teen moving in with her dad to Forks Washington due to the fact her mother recently had married a baseball player and wanted to go on the road. Bella is not really looking forward to moving in with her father she simply calls Charlie, but soon warms up to him and Forks.
Charlie bought Bella an old truck from a friend of his living on the local Indian reservation. Billy Black and his son Jacob deliver the truck to Bella before she began school. Jacob and Bella have a complicated relationship through the book, Jacob is a year or two younger and has a crush on Bella, he is a great mechanic and eventually helps Bella realize her boyfriend may be a vampire and that other supernatural entities exist in the world.
