Top 5 Summer Young Adult Books
Today I am going to name what I think the most awesome YA books coming out this summer are going to be. Some of these have me tingling in my booties, I cannot wait to get my hands on them! Let me know what you think are the best summer books coming out, I need to add to my TBR pile.
Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, Book 4)
Vampire Academy book 4 is on the way yay! I love this series because it isn’t afraid to be what it is. The plot is intriguing and the characters fleshed out and likable.
The Sorceress (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel)
Book three in the Nicholas Flamel series is sure to be a pleaser. Read books 1 and 2 on vacation last year from the library.
I found Septimus right before moving from the UK to California, I was unsure whether I would like the series but bought all 4 books on a whim. Cannot wait for the latest.
The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson & the Olympians, Book 5)
Percy Jackson is a real Greek Myth Hero, and who doesn’t love a Hero? He and his friends are charged with stopping the rise of the Titan’s. Love this series.
The Faerie Path #4: The Immortal Realm
The latest Faerie Path installment. I read books 1-3 a while back and was really impressed by the author. There is a review of those books and an interview here on the site.
Review: Magyk (Septimus Heap Book 1) by Angie Sage
Angie Sage really has a break out hit on her hands for this one. It reminds of Harry Potter without being a copy or leaving you feeling like you are back at Hogwarts. I really enjoyed this book which is written for younger readers.
The book follows a poor Wizard family by the name of Heap. The father of the story Slias was the apprentice to the highest wizard in the land when he met Sarah and decided to get married. Silas was the seventh son of a wizard, and was quite good at his craft before he gave up on his education to marry. For this reason the Heap’s and their six boys lived in a small house in the Ramblings. I thought Sage really did an amazing job with describing her world to the reader. The Ramblings and Wizard Castle sound like such an amazing place to live. You also have the forrest that Silas’ father took the form of a tree rather than death, where evil creatures and the Wendron Witches lurk at night looking for unsuspecting travelers roaming at night.
Sarah was giving birth to her seventh son, a very powerful magician they would later find out. A seventh son of a seventh son was an amazing coincidence. Silas coming home from the Castle, spotted a baby girl in the snow took her home to Sarah even though another mouth to feed was out of the question when the Midwife came screaming out of his door that his seventh son Septimus Heap was in fact dead. Sarah was beside herself but was happy to have the girl infant they named Jenna.
Angie Sage made an amazing dark character out of a necromancer named Dom Daniel, his apprentice to the dark arts was a greasy young boy of about ten named … Septimus Heap.
I don’t want to give too much of the plot away here but Jenna is abducted when she finds out she is queen of the realm, the boy named Septimus has a lot to learn about his family the Heaps, and the Heaps lose a son to the dark side, while gaining another. Aunt Zelda gets a pet project and Marcia Overstrand finds her new apprentice. Quite a lovely novel and an easy read for the younger ones.
