Coliloquy comes out of the Kindle Developer Beta Program for Active Content and will be available on all e-ink Kindle devices. By delivering titles as active content applications, rather than static publishing files, Coliloquy enables new kinds of engagement that simply aren’t possible in a traditional book format. Multiple “what if” story lines let authors and readers explore different permutations of character relationships. TV-like episodes can grow and change, based on reader choices, voting, and feedback. Fans can reread a key scene from a different character’s point-of-view or unlock new content. -Press Release

I am so happy to be able to share with you all the launch of this fabulous new innovative publishing company. I have read two titles (Witch’s Brew by Heidi R. Kling and Arcania by Liz Maverick) and I was delightfully surprised at how much I enjoyed this choose your own path format. From the two books I read, I read through them twice. I had to see what happens with all the choices.

Here are the four books that you can get for your Kindle e-ink device today:

Heidi R. Kling, Witch’s Brew (The Spellspinners of Melas County): a contemporary young adult series about a modern day witch who must betray everything she knows to save her magic and her forbidden love.

Kira Snyder, Dead Letter Office (Parish Mail): a contemporary southern gothic mystery series about a teenager who discovers a cache of centuries-old letters containing clues to crimes happening in the present day.

Liz Maverick, Arcania, Trial by Fire #1 (Arcania): a young adult fantasy series about an underachieving teen thrust into an MMO-like world of magical combat, where she must master her own genetic gifts while investigating her twin sister’s suspicious death.

Tawna Fenske, Getting Dumped: a serialized romantic caper about a woman who loses her job but finds love, intrigue, mayhem, and a new career buried in the unlikeliest of places.

A few days ago, I asked my readers to tell me what their most burning questions were, and today I’m going to answer them! Some of the questions asked aren’t answered here…I’ll do my best to tackle them in the future!

Anonymous said…
Here’s a Question!: If poor, darling Harley had lived, did you ever consider him becoming a legitimate rival for elder concerning Amy’s Affections? I’ve always wondered this :)

Actually…and I think several people might be disappointed by this, but…no. I think Amy certainly might have fallen for Harley, but Harley is a one-woman girl. He loved Kayleigh, and it was an absolute sort of love.

Bethany said…
I want to know how everyone on Godspeed got to be one race? They must have taken people from Sol earth that were all the same race, because it couldn’t have taken only a couple hundred years for them to all mix together and end up as a mono-ethnicity, right?

You’re absolutely correct! The monoethnicity was developed through genetic manipulation. I hinted at this when Doc injects the pregnant woman with genetic material (although I tried to keep that vague). Soon, I’ll have a short story out, and you’ll see that right before the “plague,” people were still ethnically diverse.

Anne Riley said…
My question is: Will Amy’s parents ever wake up?

Yes.

Rida said…
Is there an inspiration for Elder? A celebrity face you imagined, characteristics and personality quirks you borrowed from somebody close?

Actually, I think that Elder is most like…me. I certainly modelled the way he acted on myself. He has this constant underlying worry that he’s not good enough, and that is something I tapped in from my own emotions.

Kayeleen Hamblin said…
When you wrote Across the Universe and A Million Suns, did you have the ending of Shades of Earth in mind? Or did the three books evolve independently of each other?

When I wrote AtU, that was intended to be a stand-alone. I knew it would end on a question, and I was okay with that. After talking with my agent, I realized that the story arc would be more satisfying for a reader if I added to it. So then I wrote A MILLION SUNS…and the cool thing about that was that I had to use the clues that I put in the first book to develop the second one. I recently finished a rough draft of SHADES OF EARTH, and I found myself still picking up tiny details from the first two books to include into the third one.

Anonymous said…
Why was Luthe admitted into the hospital ward? He seems crazy enough…

Remember, people were admitted to the ward for their creativity, not just their crazy :) Luthe is actually a sculptor. You DO see more of him in the second book, but if you’re really interested in him, then keep your eyes peeled for a short novella I’m working on that centers around Luthe and another character…

Sachi said…
Hmm, did any of the previous elders know of Amy’s existence? I wonder if Orion knew before she became unfrozen. I know he has secrets….

Yes.

(And that’s all I can say on the subject….)

Julia said…
How was the ship stocked with supplies when they were leaving Earth? How did they know what they’d need?

They didn’t. They tried to stockpile a bit of everything, and they included things that could be reproduced. I based the ship on a biodome that could constantly produce the things they needed, and gave them stuff that could grow. I also supposed that many things, such as technology and other non-renewable items, could be developed through the manufacturing processes established on the Shipper Level.

I have this pile of ARCs. Most are duplicate and unread, and a signed copy of Struts and Frets, plus this awesome Hemlock swag to give away. The details are simple. Someone who calls Hicklebee’s at (408) 292-8880 and order signed/personalized books for the Lauren Myracle signing will win all of this, plus a few that I find on their ARC shelf as well. They get way better ARCs than I do.

Hicklebee’s will keep up with everyone who calls and orders and as Lauren is signing and personalizing your books a winner will be chosen randomly.

There are two reasons beyond all this awesome stuff why you should order. Hicklebee’s is a fabulous indie, and we all could support an author who is as classy as Myracle after the NBA thingy. Whether you win or not, you will have a fancy signed book from a really classy lady on your shelves.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, and if you want you can help me spread the word.

I had the unique opportunity to sit down at a tea with Philippa Gregory at the NCIBA annual conference this past Friday. Its not very often that I have a fangirl moment, but trust me when I say I was beaming like a Kindergartner upon meeting Philippa when she breezed her way to our table. I told her how I used her books as a guide to England when I lived there. Devouring her words and then visiting the landmarks where her stories took place. She was gracious, regal, and I am in awe of her talent.

S&S had a few extra copies of Philippa’s latest The Lady of the Rivers and I accepted one to give away to one of you lucky readers! I hope you enjoy the story that Philippa wrote. During her speech she spoke of the reason she writes these kinds of stories. Most simply put, she wanted to aid the women of the past in having a voice. These women who were a massive part of historical events and because they were women were not much more than a footnote in the pages of historians past.

Philippa does a ton of research for every book, looking through libraries and folklore and even online to find mention of the women she writes about. Prompted by all the goodies she found Gregory went on to publish her first historic nonfiction. The Women of the Cousins’ War: The Duchess, the Queen, and the King’s Mother.

To enter use the Rafflecopter below. The only mandatory option is that you leave a comment telling me if you have read a Gregory book before, and if so what did you think about it. The other options are not mandatory but count for extra entries. After each option you complete, remember to click the “I did this” button so you are entered.
