Sony strikes a deal with News Corp and Rupert Murdoch for digi papers.

From Yahoo! News

“Sony Electronics, which has delayed the delivery of its electronic book reader, is hoping a deal with News Corp. will make it worth the wait for consumers. The companies sealed a deal Thursday that will enable Sony Reader users to view content from The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post. The deal comes after reports that News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch was unhappy with the company’s deal with Amazon.com for the Kindle.”

“Consumers will have to choose between two different subscription models to access the publications’ digital content, and News Corp. will reportedly get better control of subscriptions. A monthly digital subscription to the Journal will cost $14.99. The price for MarketWatch news and columns is $10.99, and a monthly subscription to the Post will be set at $9.99, according to Sony.”

November is NaNoWriMo month! Learn how to get your YA title read by the movers and shakers of the big publishing houses!

In case you didn’t know, November is NaNoWriMo Month. Okay I have to admit, I didn’t know either. After some careful research about NaNoWriMo I decided it was about the coolest tool for aspiring writers ever. The deal for November is to write a whole book in a month. You can do it! There is even that whole break for Thanksgiving. The extra cool thing about this year is a contest for aspiring writers.

The really cool people over at Source Books let me know they will be involved in the contest. Details are as such. You write the first 250 words and a working title, from November 1st to November 30th you can submit your entry and the judging process will begin. The cool peeps over at Source will select the 20 best, and send them on to today’s biggest and baddest YA publishing guys who will then pick the winner. So get started on that idea you always had but never found the time to write. You may be asking yourself “what do I win for all my hard work and dedication?”. Here is the scoop:

The Grand Prize Winner will receive a free, 10-week writing course, courtesy of Gotham Writers’ Workshop.

The Top Five Entrants (including the Grand Prize winner) will receive a 15-minute, one-on-one pitch session with Regina Brooks, one of New York’s premier literary agents for young adult books. They will also receive commentary on their submissions by editors at HarperCollins, Penguin, Harlequin, Random House, and Sourcebooks.

The Top 20 Entrants will receive autographed copies of Writing Great Books for Young Adults by Regina Brooks.

Seems to me like a great opportunity for new writers to get those ideas out into the pub world! Let me know if you enter and what your story is about!

Publisher’s Weekly had an in depth article about a new trend in fiction. Are Zombie’s replacing the Vampire in popular fiction?

“Zombies may have become so popular in the mainstream because they’re so basic they’re almost a blank slate,” says Don D’Auria, executive editor of the Leisure Books horror imprint. “You can read so much into them. They can be a satire on consumerism or a comment on any group-think mentality. Plus, they’re instantly recognizable. Even nonhorror fans know what a zombie is, at least on some level.”

Read inside on how to participate in this years Bloggiesta event hosted by Maw Books and what I plan to do for the event.

Bloggiesta: Be there or be square!

When is Bloggiesta? The date is Friday, June 19th beginning at 8am, Saturday the 20th and ending Sunday the 21st at 8am (8am your time, wherever you are). That is a total of 48 hours, of which you should aim high for a total of 18-24 hours spent on the challenge.

What is Bloggiesta? Well it is a special weekend for bloggers from any genre (ie. mommy, movie review, tech, lit, any blog on the planet), to spend some time doing maintenance on our blogs and social networking sites. The post on exactly how to join, and what exactly you need to be doing is located here at Maw Books (the event coordinator). The button you see to the top left is what brands this challenge so make sure to steal that and put it on your blog with your post detailing what it is you need to get done on your blog!

For optimal participation keep checking back to the post on Maw’s Book Blog and use Twitter Search to follow and use the hash tag for the event #bloggiesta

Now with no further ado, here is the list of things I want to get done this weekend in no particular order (to track my progress check back to this post strike through items are completed):

Business cards designed and ordered from Moo

Add a related posts plugin.

Get Comment Luv to work.

Work on my Myspace getting it all current.

Find new cool people to follow on Twitter.

This list may grow, and I am here to help with anything I have expertise in such as design, how to code a cool post or template for a post, or anything else you see around my blog. So I may have some questions for you ladies and gents in your area of expertise also.

Let’s have fun!
