Nice post! I'm a librarian, so I'm always happy to read something like this.

I've been seeing posts about the recent ALA conference, and some of the behavior. I went to ALA in Chicago recently, and saw rudeness from librarians and bloggers, alike, which is always frustrating. Somehow, shiny new books seem to sometimes bring out the beast in any reader. :)

As a school librarian, I hope one day I can have the kind of influence on a student that Miss White did for you.

Great post. :)

As a librarian assistant (who is getting paid a little above minimum wage) and a book blogger, I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments here, including "shut it," because sometimes people need to do just that and remember book bloggers and librarians are in this together: to promote reading. Or at least, I thought that's what we're both here for.

Or we could talk about how supremely CLASSY everyone involved in this has been when anyone has DARED to question them on their behavior. They've surely conducted themselves like grown-ups and been willing to have real conversations!

Oh, wait.

Mostly I just wanted to say that I think a person who claims in their twitter bio to be an "aspiring publicist" should know better than to say, shut it as a response but, hey, that's about the level of discourse from these people, sooo . . .

I love you for this post, Pam! Miss White sounds like she was a wonderful lady. Librarians are awesome. I hate that they are being cut at some schools because of budget issues. They are important, and they deserve our respect and support.

I just have to say that as a Librarian, I love your post (obviously)... lol. As a youth services librarian, the best part of my day is really, truly being able to connect a non-reader with a book...and then seeing them come back for more! So glad that you had that moment with a Librarian when you were little!
