Title:Clockwork Prince (Infernal Devices #2)
Author:Clare, Cassandra
Publisher:McElderry
Pages:502

From Hicklebee’s: In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street—and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.

With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will—the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?

As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

I feel very confident saying that Cassandra Clare is one of the most stunning fantasy authors in YA Literature. I have dutifully read each and every one of her books and I have found myself in love with each book for different reasons. Her Infernal Devices series is my favorite of her two. If you haven’t read Clockwork Angel this review will hold spoilers from that book. Also, if you haven’t read Clockwork Angel – get on that now. I promise you won’t regret it.

There are a great many things I loved about Clockwork Prince. The evolution of Jem from being pitiable and weak to a strong young man with a brilliant disposition on life. Jem was understanding, constantly there for Tessa and isn’t bitter with the lot he has been given. He is swiftly becoming my favorite character from Clare’s cannon.

Will on the other hand acted like an entitled ass through most of the novel. Yes, it is explained why he is an ass, and its sad tear-worthy even- especially when you learn the truth about him and Magnus Bane helps him solve his biggest life mystery. It was the last few pages of the book and his “Jem can take it” attitude that made me incredibly mad at him. I am in awe of Clare’s ability to elicit such strong emotions from me, especially related to the characters.

Tessa is still Tessa, smart, funny and well read. We are little closer to finding out what she really is at the end of the novel and the wait for book three where I hope we do find out is going to kill me. Tessa grows so much in this novel, she goes from proper American lady living in England to kick ass down and dirty I will do anything to save any of you and that was my favorite part of this novel.

The Lightwoods are introduced, Morty is still deliciously evil, there are still clockwork devices but they aren’t the main focus of the book. I did enjoy how the devices took a backseat here for plot and I have a feeling they will play a major part in book three.

The most important thing Henry is still awesome. Charlotte is going through a very hard time in Clockwork Prince and I hope everything works out and she and Henry become very happy together; they deserve it.

New characters, new hints and mysteries are introduced. The world building is superb and if I had the next book I would have dove into it immediately. If you haven’t had a chance to read Clare I highly suggest you drop everything and do that now.

Looooooove this book. Henry and Charlotte were surprisingly one of my favorite parts of this book as well. I won’t spoil with why, but I LOVED that she brought out more of EVERYONE not just the threesome.

And I totally agree with you. Tessa is still and always will be my favorite part of this series, and her growth in this novel was outstanding.

I will die of wait until PRINCESS comes out. DIE OF WAIT.

I felt the same stabby way about Will, especially at the end. You claim that Jem is your parabatai, even closer to you than a best friend and a brother, and you would take away the woman he loves because you think you DESERVE it more? Oh, no. No no no. I love me some broken Will Herondale, but NO SIR.

I haven’t picked up this one yet. I was told not to by a fellow blogger who just recently went to her Nashville signing..so I have a feeling it may end up in my mail box soon, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. yay!

I was a little nervous to read Clockwork Angel.. I loved the Mortal Instrument books, and I was afraid that CA was going to be a disappointment. I know never to think that with Clare anymore, because she is brilliant.

I adore Tessa.. I loved her so much, and I’m happy to see from your review that we get to learn a little more about how she came to be.. even a slight hint will satisfy me at this point, because I have been dying to know since I picked up book 1.

I’m not surprised that Will is an ass hat in this.. I got the same impression of him from CA, and Jem already has my heart. <3 Yours is the first Clockwork Prince review I'm reading.. I get scared of spoilers, but you are pretty legit so I figured it was safe to read. :) I thought I was excited to read this before, ha! I can't wait now. You've just reminded me of how much I loved CA..

Great review. I’m Team Jem so Will will always be ‘the ass’ of the story – to me at least – but I still love him for it and I know he has his reasons . . . but still most of the time he only thinks of himself. Anyway I’m waiting for my copy of CP to come in the mail. *cries*

I really wanna reread Clockwork Angel before I read Clockwork Prince, I don’t remember much about what happened haha. I’m really looking forward to reading it though, I do remember Clockwork Angel was AMAZING!

I really NEED to get this. :D I absolutely love Clare’s series, and I’ve been dying to read this ever since I finished Clockwork Angel. Sadly, I don’t have the money for it at the moment.. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it soon!

Just curious about whether or not you’ve read what cassie clare wrote on her tumblr in reference to your review. It’s hard for me to choose sides in this love triangle because it’s done so well and i honestly love each of the characters. But I think I’m Team Will and I love what cassie said about Will’s comments regarding Jem being able to “take it.” I disagree that he usually thinks about himself – he’s spent the last five years thinking of everyone but himself! I don’t think having that momentary flash of selfishness after all he’s been through makes him an ass or selfish at heart. He’s reeling in the face of all he’s learned about himself as well as the others. That said, I do love Jem. He’s adorable. I don’t want him heartbroken. I think Tessa and Will made the right decision in the end. YOu should read what cassie wrote, she says it much better, lol.

I can’t wait till Princess comes out!!!!! I looove Will. I think he belongs with Tessa. They make a cute couple. I HATE the demon that put a “curse” on will. I am sooo on Team Will. I like Jem and all, but I think Will deserves Tessa and I personally think Tessa loves Will more as a husband and Jem like a brother/good friend. I am so mad that i have to wait till december. I am in looove with Will!
