“Plot? Check. Mystery? Check. Superb writing? Check. Tighter has everything you need for a completely creepy read.”
From Goodreads: When 17-year-old Jamie arrives on the idyllic New England island of Little Bly to work as a summer au pair, she is stunned to learn of the horror that precedes her. Seeking the truth surrounding a young couple’s tragic deaths, Jamie discovers that she herself looks shockingly like the dead girl—and that she has a disturbing ability to sense the two ghosts. Why is Jamie’s connection to the couple so intense? What really happened last summer at Little Bly? As the secrets of the house wrap tighter and tighter around her, Jamie must navigate the increasingly blurred divide between the worlds of the living and the dead.
Brilliantly plotted, with startling twists, Tighter is a thrilling page-turner from the award-winning Adele Griffin.
The more I read Adele Griffin the more I am evolving into a fan. Whether it is ghost stories, contemporary or a modern thriller I am always in a reading trance racing through the book with a fury that only the ending can bring. I never know what is going to happen, and that smug feeling you get when reading that tells you “HA! I figured it out!” is always countered when Griffin is writing the story.
Tighter is creepy in a I-can’t-take-my-eyes-away kind of way. Jamie is thrown into a babysitting position while trying to slowly battle her overwhelming depression and addiction to pills. Her mother thought spending time out on the island away from everything that was keeping Jamie down would be a great way for her to get back to her normal self before returning home to New Jersey for the school year.
At first everything seems to be going fine… but as time progresses Jamie starts seeing and hearing things that can’t be real. The more questions she asks the more tightlipped the residents of the tiny island become. Then she meets a boy and everything changes…
Tighter is a complete mind screw of a novel. It moves at a demanding yet enjoyable pace and keeps your breath bated until the conclusion. The ending is not at all what I predicted and I loved that. I suggest everyone pick up an Adele Griffin book today!
