Review: Vamps by Nancy A. Collins
FromGoodreads: When the sun goes down, New York’s true elite all head to one place: Bathory Academy, where the young ladies of the finest vampire families are trained in shapeshifting and luring their prey.
Bathory’s reigning queen, Lilith Todd, is the daughter of a powerful vampire businessman, and she knows exactly what she wants from life. She wants to look beautiful for eternity and party till the sun comes up with her gorgeous boyfriend, Jules. And she doesn’t want any New Blood upstarts standing in her way.
Enter Cally Monture, an unexpected threat from a trash zip code. When their first meeting leads to tragic results, Lilith is hungry for revenge.

Imagine Gossip Girl with fangs and a dark yet funny story line. Then you have Vamps. Fun characters, fun writing. Laugh out loud funny. I loved everything about this book!
However it did get a bit redundant at times and it left me with no desire to read the second one. If I ever have extra time I might pick it up though. Cally is a fantastic character and I was intrigued by the way she lived, then she was sent to Bathory Academy and watching her life intertwine with mean girl type vampire Lilith was fascinating to behold.
If you like Gossip Girl, or Pretty Little Liars you will love Vamps! Here is me reading an excerpt from the novel:

This plot reminds me of Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz. Have you read it? It is told from the point of view of the new girl.

So… this review was just what I needed to push this from the massive pool of ‘own but haven’t read’ to the pool of ‘to-read this year’ books. Thanks! I’m totally looking forward to it.

Sorry, I thought this book was incredibly shallow. Lillith and her friends are some of the stupidest, meanest people I’ve ever read about, and Cally was the only saving grace in the story. Honestly I finished the book because I was in a rut about writing my own and reading this made me think, “Oh, please, I can do better than this!”
Apparently Collins wrote a fantastic vampire book called “Sunglasses After Dark” and then she wrote this, and people where like, “…whut.”
Sorry, but you and me are on opposite sides of the fence for this one. If this book were a Facebook page, I would hit “dislike.”
