I was introduced to the series when I was book shopping and only had five minutes left to pick out a book. So I randomly grabbed The Forest of Hands and Teeth and bought it. I stayed up past 2 AM reading it:) And now this series is one of my favorites so thank you Carrie Ryan;)

This is one of my fave YA reads. Truely. And I loved The Dead-Tossed Waves. I can’t wait to read The Dark and Hollow Places.

The second book is actually about Mary’s daughter, who she named after Gabrielle. Just thought I’d clear that up.

I think this ended up as a 3/5 or so for me for the same reason you knocked it down to a 4. Not learning the secrets made me unhappy with her world building, I wasn’t able to just relax into her creation without at least some hints about the secrets. I’ll be waiting to hear if the next book reveals more. If not, I likely won’t read it.

I can’t wait for the second book!!! I’m glad you got to read it and post your review. I love seeing what others thought. I walked into it with no idea what was going to be in it, so I kept trying to figure out what in the heck was going on! I’m glad to see I wasn’t the only one!

@Catherine: I thought they found Gabriel’s village though, and it was not at the sea?

I think there are a lot of stories that could be told, and I do like the idea of doing Gabriel’s one. Would make a nice companion to Mary’s story, IMO.

I’m glad you liked this one – I did too. Can’t wait for Dead-Tossed Waves.
