Do you commit literary masochism?
I was tweeting around with @NicLovesBooks, and we were talking about why we continue to read books and series we obviously don’t like. I recently read book 9 of Sookie Stackhouse, and my review of Dead and Gone was definitely not the nicest review I have ever written. I know I don’t like these books, but I continue reading them, why?
Are there any books you read that you didn’t like, or series you continue with (most popular answer is Anita Blake) that you really don’t like at all, or am I the only one that commits literary masochism?

LOL! I love that term “literary masochism”. And it’s so true in my case. Not necessarily with series but I do read to the end books I do not like and I know will not get better as I read. I guess it’s my little case of OCD, I have to finish what I start otherwise that one book would be in my nightmares. One series that I somewhat disliked and that kept getting worse with each book was The Song of Ice and Fire, I loved the first two, I didn’t like the third one and Ihated the fourth one.

Oh yeah, I totally do that too. I’ve been trying to re-assess after 50 pages and stop if I don’t like it, but sometimes I just keep going. Maybe it’s because I’m too lazy to stop, take a break, then pick out a new book? Hmm.

LOL, yes sometimes I do it too, but only if it´s part of a series. I only keep on reading to get the story “finished”. If it´s a new book/story I simply close the book when I don´t like it and take the next one. After a while (could be years) I usually try to read the book again and sometimes it happens that I start liking the book. Maybe it was just the wrong time, wrong environment, wrong mood, wrong age…..when I first tried to read it. But if I still don´t like it, I won´t finish it. There are so many good stories out there, so I don´t want to waste any time with bad ones.

LOL that is funny! Let’s see. I think I continued reading the Sue Grafton alphabet murders longer than I meant to because my mom and sister knew I was reading them and anytime a new one would come out they would give it to me. I finally had to tell them they could stop, LOL.
